  • Country music duo Big & Rich will perform at the Bluebird Cafe on Jan. 20 at 9:00 p.m. to benefit Alive Hospice. Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 9 with limited availability.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring will open Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites on Saturday, Jan. 24. The traveling exhibit (created by Minnesota Children’s Museum) offers interactive environments from classic picture books at 502 SE Broad Street and runs through Sunday, May 3.  Rutherford County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Department of Health reported the lowest food health scores from Jan. 1-7 at Carrabba's Italian Grill, Bonchon, Subway, and Vena Cafe in Rutherford County — inspection reports are posted at each establishment and available for review at county offices.  Rutherford County Source
  • Veterans, families and community will attend a ribbon cutting and tour of Building 107 at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center on Friday, Jan. 23 at 1:00 p.m.—the renovated 37,000 sqft facility now offers enhanced wellness programs, including recreational therapy and a high-tech Simulation Lab for training clinicians.  WGNS

  • Sophomore running back Jacob Vaughn transferred from Riverdale to Oakland on Jan. 7—after a breakout season with 1,004 yards and eight touchdowns—adding depth to Oakland's backfield as top players graduated.  The Daily News Journal
  • Ben Caudill resigned as Stewarts Creek football coach on Jan. 7 after six seasons and said family priorities led his decision + the school is now seeking a new coach.  The Daily News Journal
