  • Amelia's Closet provides job-readiness support to women with professional clothing and career help at 810 NW Broad St., Suite 10, while across the parking lot Liberty's Station runs a job training café offering paid, hands-on training for individuals with disabilities; donations and volunteer support benefit both programs.  Murfreesboro Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Governor Bill Lee declared Jan. 19 as Dolly Parton Day to honor her 80th birthday and lifelong contributions to music and philanthropy (celebrating her Sevier County roots) in Tennessee.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Murfreesboro City Schools is accepting nominations through Jan. 30 for its 2025 — 26 Teachers Hall of Fame to honor educators and school staff who helped shape generations of students. Director Dr. Trey Duke said the program celebrates over 130 years of service and welcomes living and deceased nominees.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Emergency Communications District mourned longtime assistant director Bernard (Buster) Brown, who served over 30 years mentoring public safety staff.   • On Jan. 14, the Rutherford County Commission passed a resolution requesting Congressional help to build a $21.5 million air traffic control tower at Smyrna-Rutherford County Airport (the current 72-year-old tower is 51 feet too short for modern guidelines).   • After requesting a statewide review, Secretary Hargett said he doubts libraries will remove any books from children's sections — some books will be moved to adult areas to meet new age guidelines. About half the reports have been submitted, with the remainder due next week.  NewsChannel 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Titans do not participate in the divisional round this NFL playoff weekend, yet several teams feature former Titans including coach Mike Vrabel and safety Kevin Byard. Local fans can track these moments that connect Tennessee talent to the postseason.  The Daily News Journal
  • At Siegel High School Friday night, Oakland girls won their 20th straight game, 46-40, in a (10-4A) rivalry match, while Siegel boys beat the Patriots 77-63. Oakland is now 2-0 and Siegel leads the boys series 29 to 24.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Four MTSU hockey players represented the College Hockey South All-Star team on a European tour during winter break, playing at the Centre sportif Guy-Boissière in Rouen on Jan. 6. They scored 16 points in four games and explored local landmarks in France.  MTSU Sidelines
