  • Officer Dustin Nicholson was honored with the Jerry Anderson Hero Award by the NAACP Murfreesboro Branch on Saturday during the MLK Breakfast at MTSU for pulling a woman to safety from an I-24 overpass, where he credited his CIT training (for his swift action).  City of Murfreesboro
  • On Jan. 8, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland recognized Police Sgt. Mark Wood with a STARS award for his work with the Homeless Outreach Support Team (H.O.S.T.) as multiple nominations highlighted his extra efforts, including paying for community resources out of his own pocket.  City of Murfreesboro
  • MFRD’s Assistant Fire Marshal Shan Womack was elected president of the Tennessee Fire Safety Inspectors Association at the annual conference at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro on Dec. 8, 2025—she will lead the group with a focus on teamwork while Fire Inspector Jonathan Gaither joined the board.  City of Murfreesboro

  • Oakland Patriots won the 37th Rutherford County Swimming Championship Meet on Jan. 17, outscoring Rockvale 164 to 119 while maintaining a 15-year win streak since 1989+ local swimmers now prepare for the Region Meet on Jan. 23 and 24 at Williamson County Rec Center.  WGNS
