- ➤ Murfreesboro will gain Veterans Park — set to open by early 2027 — along Veterans Parkway on the westside as recreation official Nate Williams confirmed the project is underway. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Murfreesboro Police Officer Samuel Lopez earned the Officer of the Year Award from VFW Post 4575 Smith & Rogers & Reeves after showing care for an injured dog during a 16-hour shift in Sept. 2025. - ➤ Ascend Federal Credit Union donated $55K and over 13K food items to Second Harvest Food Bank to help neighbors access nutritious food this holiday season. - ➤ Officer Nicholson received the Jerry Anderson Hero Award for his swift life-saving rescue on Dec. 23 at the I-24 overpass when he pulled a woman from danger and credited his Crisis Intervention Training. - ➤ Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro remained on a precautionary hold Wednesday after local police and school officials responded to a call reporting a threat that later proved unfounded. WGNS

- ➤ Health Department data show the lowest food health scores for Rutherford County from Jan. 14-21, with U+I on Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro inspected on Jan. 15 and Sabor Latino Restaurante in Smyrna inspected on Jan. 20. - ➤ The Rutherford County health department released inspection scores from Jan. 14-21 for local food service and school establishments in the area & residents are reminded that these reports must be posted for public view. - ➤ Middle Tennessee men’s tennis beat Harvard 6-1 at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, marking their first win against the Crimson since 2003. Senior duo Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak led the team to a 3-0 start and they will host UAB on Jan. 23. MTSU Sidelines
