  • Retired Air Force Col. Tom Hickerson received a Quilt of Valor at the MTSU Heritage Center in Murfreesboro on Jan. 17 – a tribute to his long military service, with his wife and daughter in attendance.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Sports*Com in Murfreesboro will host its 24th Annual Polar Bear Plunge on January 31 at 8:00 a.m., with indoor games, food and live music before participants plunge into the outdoor pool at 10:00 a.m. and bring non-perishable donations for the local food bank.  Rutherford County Source

  • Stores across Middle Tennessee face a bread shortage as families stock up before the approaching winter storm & Metro Police plan to remove abandoned vehicles to clear roads for snow plows.  FOX 17

  • On Thursday, Jan. 22, the city honored ten retired employees from the inaugural Legacy Recognition Program during a ceremony at the City Council Chamber (4 p.m.). The honorees received plaques and a spot on the City Legacies wall to mark decades of service.  WGNS

  • Rutherford County is bracing for icy conditions as the Red Cross urges residents to stay warm and use heaters safely + check on neighbors; local warming centers are preparing for increased demand amid the forecasted frost and ice.  WGNS

  • Tickets for the Conference USA Basketball Championship are on sale for the tournament at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville, two hours from Murfreesboro. Fans can purchase tickets online & get ready to see top college basketball.  WGNS
  • Anticipating winter weather, the MTSU men’s basketball game against Jacksonville State, originally set for Saturday, Jan. 24, is moved to today at 6:00 p.m. (a Winter Storm Watch covers much of the south).  MTSU Sidelines
  • Rockvale junior Dallas Pauldo, named Region 3-6A Co-Tight End of the Year, accepted his fourth SEC offer from Tennessee after speaking with co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter on Jan. 22 and joins offers from Georgia, Vanderbilt and Missouri after a strong season as both tight end and defensive end.  The Daily News Journal
  • Due to an expected snow storm, MTSU moved its women's basketball game against Liberty to today at Murphy Center with tipoff at 6:30 p.m. The Delaware game on Jan. 22 remained as scheduled while coach Rick Insell aimed for his 500th win.  The Daily News Journal
