COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Animal shelters and nonprofits have partnered to fill local pet food pantries for families struggling with pet care, with more than two dozen groups joining the effort. Residents can drop off or pick up pet food at sites such as PAWS in Murfreesboro + access details online.  NewsChannel 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe ice storm on Sunday damaged power systems and left 32,000 CEMC members and over 220,000 NES customers without power, and utility crews began repairs by prioritizing hospitals, emergency sites, and water supplies – people are advised to steer clear of downed lines and use generators safely.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Cumberland Electric said an ice storm damaged power lines and left 32,000 members without power, largely in Sumner County, with repairs slowed by icy conditions. Crews will continue work across the region to restore service and advise residents to check on vulnerable neighbors (restoration may take several days).  FOX 17

  • Due to an ongoing ice storm, MTE is monitoring outages and urging residents to use its outage map and myMTE app for real-time updates; the company also warns against unsafe generator connections (which can lead to hazardous backfeeding) and advises updating contact details to receive alert messages.  Rutherford County Source

  • Middle Tennessee Women’s Basketball celebrated Coach Rick Insell’s 500th NCAA win — a rare milestone — with a 63–54 victory over Liberty Friday at the Murphy Center, marking strong team play and consistency on the court.  WGNS
