- ➤ Linemen from Middle Tennessee Electric and Murfreesboro Fire Rescue battled harsh winter storm conditions—icy roads, sleet and flooding—in Rutherford County as crews restored power and extinguished a small roof fire at International Paper, working nonstop since Friday night to keep the community safe. - ➤ Rutherford County Schools will reopen on Friday, Jan. 30 after being closed from Jan. 26 to Jan. 29 for snow and icy roads. The district office will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 29 as crews work to clear roads and restore power (ensuring safe school facilities). The Daily News Journal

- ➤ Residents across Rutherford County reported hearing natural frost quakes on Monday night — caused by a rapid drop in temperature after days of melting snow — that startled many. Experts say the harmless phenomenon was due to quick ice formation and may recur with sudden deep freezes. WGNS

- ➤ The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department has announced Captain John Rutledge as its first full-time EMS Instructor, set to begin on Feb. 9 in Murfreesboro. A lifelong Rutherford County resident, he brings years of emergency training experience to boost local EMS services. WGNS

- ➤ Blair Baugus was named CUSA Freshman of the Week on Monday, Jan. 26 after scoring 22 points, grabbing eight rebounds and making six steals in the 63—54 win over Liberty, which marked Coach Rick Insell’s 500th win.
