  • Food Lion Feeds partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank on Feb. 4 to deliver 16,000 pounds of shelf-stable food and 8,000 bottles of water for families affected by storms in Middle Tennessee (residents are still waiting for power to be restored).  FOX 17
  • Seven inmates at the Adult Detention Center graduated the Rutherford County Re-Entry Program today by earning certificates in Moral Recognition Therapy and Anger Management, and former inmate Candy Blank (a certified peer support specialist at the Safe Baby Court) shared a message of hope while staff and volunteers observed the ceremony.  Rutherford County Source

  • Chickasaw photographer Rahim Fortune spoke at an MTSU Photo Society panel on Feb. 3, sharing how his Chickasaw heritage and family history guide his art. He explained how his work evolved from personal projects to published books that capture life in the South.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Rutherford County high schools are launching a spring theater season when Oakland High performs 'Seussical the Musical' Feb. 12-14 at Patriot Dr., and other schools stage shows (such as Riverdale’s 'Shrek, the Musical' and Siegel’s 'Hadestown Teen Edition') featuring both students and alumni.  Murfreesboro Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Jan. 28 to Feb. 4, several eateries in Murfreesboro including China Wok and Yoki Buffet received their lowest food health scores during routine inspections.   • Middle Tennessee State University and The Annex Group announced that financing closed on Dec. 23 for the $56M Womack Commons student housing community.   • MTSU football announced new offensive coaching hires for the 2026 season with Al Poree as running backs coach and Ross Jenkins as tight ends coach, according to head coach Derek Mason. The changes aim to boost the team’s competitiveness for championships.  MTSU Sidelines
  • MTSU football coach Derek Mason finalized a 2026 roster on Feb. 4 that added 35 players, including four high school signees + 17 transfer portal players from power conference schools such as Southern Cal, Missouri, and Kansas State.
