  • Oflow will host a Valentine’s Day Cookie Decorating Event on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. — 12 p.m. at 115 N Maple St, where guests can buy one cookie for $5 or three for $10 without needing a reservation.  Rutherford County Source
  • Jody Powers will retire on June 5—her birthday—after 12 years of leading Amelia’s Closet and Liberty’s Station, programs that have helped hundreds secure work and build confidence. Her work will continue under The Collective at Building Hope.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Roots and Remembrance: An Evening of Hair Art History will take place on Friday, Apr. 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oaklands Mansion (inside Maney Hall) where Zen Hansen and Jody Johnson will lead a discussion on cultural hair art and offer light refreshments with limited seating.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The HackMT finale at MTSU Science Building last Sunday drew over 153 students from 21 teams and industry pros who spent 36 hours building apps, websites and devices. Record sponsorship boosted the event and first place went to Team SpIQ for its AI-powered communication coach.  WGNS
  • Tanger Outlets Nashville announced the 2025 TangerKids Grants recipients, including Springdale Elementary, Tusculum Elementary and Smyrna High School, awarding over $200,000 through 176 grants. The program supports schools and educational initiatives and is part of Tanger’s nearly 30-year commitment to local education.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal aid will reimburse local agencies in Rutherford County after a brutal January winter storm — the emergency declaration supports search and rescue, fire rescue and warming center operations in Murfreesboro and surrounding areas. Mary Hernandez Marrero will coordinate recovery efforts for ongoing safety and hazard mitigation.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders finished day one at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate at MTSU in Murfreesboro. The team showed steady play & strong performances that set a promising tone for upcoming rounds.  WGNS
  • MTSU men's basketball lost a close overtime game against Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center Saturday, with Torey Alston scoring 21 points. The team will face Kennesaw State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Friday night high school basketball games ended with mixed wins as Oakland players made key defensive plays + the upcoming schedule features games from Tuesday, Feb. 10 to Tuesday, Feb. 17 at local schools.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Oakland Middle School's boys’ basketball team beat Upperman 34-27 Saturday afternoon at home to earn a spot in the TMSAA State Tournament on Feb. 13-14 at Rockvale. The Chargers will compete with a 20-0 record, marking their first state appearance since 2020.  Murfreesboro Post
