COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rutherford County hosts five weekend events. Today features a Black History Month Movie Night at Bradley Academy Museum, a Family Campfire at Wilderness Station and a Valentine’s Dance Class at Dance Murfreesboro; tomorrow brings Valentine’s Evening at Oaklands Mansion and Pink Yoga and Prosecco at Royal Massage and Yoga Lounge.  Rutherford County Source
  • Stones River Manor in Murfreesboro will host its annual fashion show on Saturday, Feb. 28, at its new enrichment center with a brunch starting at 9:00 a.m. plus resident+staff models raising funds to retire construction debt and support a benevolent fund.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Shanna Groom, the School Nursing Coordinator at Rutherford County Schools, was elected as Tennessee’s director for the National Association of School Nurses (the first from RCS) at a November 2025 conference. Her four-year term began in January 2026.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT will conduct lane closures on I-24 for spot repairs Monday, Feb. 16 through Friday, Feb. 20 on mile markers 63 to 68 — eastbound lanes close from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and westbound from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., with at least two lanes open.  Rutherford County Source
  • State Rep. Mike Sparks filed House Bill 2086 to remove the full sales tax on fresh fruits and vegetables in Rutherford County & the state. If passed, the bill will lower grocery costs and take effect on July 1, 2026.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • MTSU Blue Raiders open the season today with a 17-game schedule against Bellarmine University at Reese Smith Jr.-Field. Coach Jerry Myers said new transfers and returning starters will help boost on-base discipline in conference play starting Mar. 13.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Local finalists for Tennessee's high school Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards have been named by the TSSAA from schools like Providence Christian Academy and Middle Tennessee Christian School, including Murfreesboro standout finalists Kayte Madison Bjornstad & Jules Ferrell; winners will be announced at Tucker Theater on Tuesday, March 10.  WGNS
  • Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will host the Louisville Cardinals today at 5 p.m. CT — the game is set on the university campus in Murfreesboro.  WGNS
  • Middle Tennessee women's tennis will travel today to face ranked SEC teams, taking on No.12 Vanderbilt at 10:30 a.m. CT while preparing to play No.4 Auburn later in the season.  WGNS
