ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Friday, a small Epic E1000 turboprop crashed on Emerald Mountain near Steamboat Springs, killing four people including Austin Huskey, CEO of Huskey Truss and Building Supply, whose Murfreesboro facility at 550 S. Rutherford Blvd had recently expanded; investigators are now examining the factors behind the crash.  WGNS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • New owners of the former Tijuana Flats space confirmed it will not reopen as before but will convert into a Mediterranean-style restaurant; more details on the new concept and timeline will be shared as plans develop.  Murfreesboro.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local duo Blank Page, MTSU freshmen Jack Robert and Avery Grace, signed to Match Records after performing at Friday, Feb. 13 Perfect Match show in the Chris Young Cafe. They plan to release personal songs and grow their audience with more shows in Murfreesboro.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Godsmack will perform with Stone Temple Pilots and Dorothy at FirstBank Amphitheater on Tuesday, May 19. General onsale for the tour and VIP ticket packages begins Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.  Rutherford County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study analyzing CDC data from 2019 through 2025 shows Tennessee ranks fifth nationally for overdose deaths among adults ages 35 to 44, with Rutherford County estimated to suffer over 400 annual deaths. The report links the trend to financial strain, caregiving pressures, and fentanyl in local drug supplies.  WGNS

  • The Blue Raiders lost a close road game to Western Kentucky 82-80 on Saturday—Kamari Lands led with 20 points as foul trouble slowed a comeback effort.  Murfreesboro Post
  • MTSU’s women’s basketball beat Kennesaw 63-45 on Jan. 31 at the Murphy Center, with senior Alayna Contreras scoring a career-high 28 points (during Breast Cancer Awareness Night). The Lady Raiders will face Western Kentucky on Feb. 21 at 2:00 p.m. CDT at E.A. Diddle Arena.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Middle Tennessee State University’s softball team lost 6-3 to Ohio in Day Two of the Chattanooga Challenge, where coach Breeden reached his 300th win. The Blue Raiders now hold a 2-7 record as they look ahead in the season.  WGNS
