  • Rutherford County School Board Vice Chair Frances Rosales announced her re-election campaign today, stating she will focus on expanding Career and Technical Education programs and renovating older schools (covering Smyrna, Blackman, and Siegel) as she competes in the May 5 primary and the Aug. 6 general ballot.  Murfreesboro.com
  • A marketing class at MTSU connected classroom learning with national ad analysis when students via Zoom discussed Super Bowl commercials + evaluated brand strategies with USA Today strategist Rick Suter.   • United Way of South Central Tennessee will host the seventh annual Storybook Breakfast on Saturday, March 7 at Overall Creek Elementary School. Families can enjoy a full breakfast service, hands-on crafts, and photo opportunities with costumed characters — and proceeds will support the local Imagination Library program for youth literacy.  WGNS
  • Rutherford County Schools announced that about 40 bus routes will not run today and Tuesday because a contractor lost insurance coverage — any resulting absences will be excused while the district works with other providers and schedules a special meeting for further details.  NewsChannel 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the TSSAA state tournament last weekend at the Williamson County Expo Center in Franklin, nearly 20 wrestlers from Rutherford County competed for medals. Stewarts Creek's Yamil Rashid won gold in the 190-pound class and Eagleville's Houston Retting earned gold in the 215-pound class.  Murfreesboro Post
  • MTSU men’s tennis team hosts the second annual Battle in the Boro from Feb. 20-22 at the Adams Tennis Complex as visiting teams stay with local families and enjoy home-cooked breakfasts; coach Jimmy Borendame and volunteer Collier Smith say the event revives a beloved local tradition.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Today, Middle Tennessee State University baseball clinched their series with a 7-0 shutout win as two dominant pitching performances improved their record to 5-2 — a strong start to the season.  WGNS

  • Murfreesboro icons Kermit Davis and David Price have been named for the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The ceremony, presented by the Titans, will be held on Saturday, July 11 at Omni Nashville Downtown as more inductees are expected to be announced.  WGNS
