COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation is building a 150-acre Veterans Park along Veterans Parkway near I-840 that will open in early 2027. The $16.5 million park will offer nearly 5 miles of walking trails + natural areas honoring U.S. Veterans. WGNS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rutherford County School Board reinstated four bus contractors after terminating Ursa Major Logistics to restore delayed routes impacting 6,000 students. Buses (187, 195, 140, 176) serving La Vergne and Smyrna are set to resume service today. WSMV
- ➤ Yesterday, the Board of Education approved contracts with four new bus contractors at a special meeting after an insurance lapse put several buses out of service. The district will work over the next few weeks to secure contractors for the remaining three shuttle routes. WGNS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Sparks and Sen. Bowling proposed lowering the school bus driver minimum age from 25 to 23 to expand the pool of qualified drivers for local school districts. School boards will still set driver rules + maintain safety standards as the state works to ease its bus driver shortage. WGNS
- ➤ State lawmakers are debating proposals to address declining landfill space by considering Tennessee Waste to Jobs (a plan to expand recycling funded by fees from manufacturers) and building a waste transfer station, with legislative decisions expected as residents near Middle Point seek long-term solutions. - ➤ Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital earned international recognition when it was named to Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 list—announced Feb. 25, the honor shows the hospital’s commitment to safe and quality care. WGNS

- ➤ Oakland clinched the District 10-4A title by beating Rockvale 57-54 at Siegel High School on Tuesday night—its ninth consecutive win and first title since 2019; first-year coach Tony Rutland earned his second district title in Rutherford County. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ Junior Birtan Duran, along with seniors Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak, earned Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors at Middle Tennessee (MTSU) during their latest tennis match. The three players were recognized for their standout performance in conference play. WGNS
