- ➤ Siegel High School senior Tehani Huntsman earned two Honorable Mentions at the MTSU True Blue Core Writing Awards (selected from nominations across general education courses) and her pieces will appear in the General Education Magazine; she will be recognized at the MTSU English Department Awards Ceremony in April. - ➤ Wildland firefighters carried out 40-acre controlled burns at Fortress Rosecrans and Redoubt Brannan at Stones River Battlefield on Saturday, Feb. 28. Parts of the park temporarily closed while crews worked to preserve native grasses and historic earthen fortifications. WGNS

- ➤ Former Hume-Fogg student Michael Nwoye won the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year award on Friday — he averaged 12.4 points and led the league in blocked shots in 27 starts at Cumberland University. Murfreesboro Post
