  • I am Next, a Nashville nonprofit helping youth aging out of foster care launched a driving school at Greenview Apartments off Murfreesboro Pike to support young adults in earning licenses & starting careers. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Apple announced its new budget-friendly iPhone 17e with 256GB storage and soft pink, white, and matte black options, and a thinner iPad Air with an M4 processor. Pre-orders begin today at 9:15 a.m. ET in Tennessee and devices will be in stores on March 11.  The Daily News Journal
  • Nissan recalled more than 600,000 Tennessee-made Rogue SUVs for engine and throttle issues risking power loss and fire; dealerships now offer free repairs that include reprogramming the engine computer or replacing parts and may take up to 15 hours, while warranty claims affected less than 1% of vehicles.  The Daily News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 2, 2026, MTSU's Jazz Department hosted its first Jazz Combos concert at Hinton Hall. The event featured faculty-led combos (Jamey Simmons, Miles Damaso, Jack Aylor, Desmond Ng) performing classic jazz and Bossa nova tunes, with solos from Ethan Assad and student Trace Crabtree honoring Tom Jobim.  MTSU Sidelines

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Murfreesboro City Schools opened its annual zone waiver enrollment on Feb. 26 and will accept requests until March 27 before spring break (Mar. 30–Apr. 3); families can join a campus tour on March 12, which follows a session on March 3, to explore schools with available seats.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • IRS data shows Tennessee filers received an average refund of $3,804 early in tax season, marking a 10.2% increase from last year, and most refunds will be issued in about 21 days after returns are filed electronically; those needing more time can file for an extension until Oct. 15.  The Daily News Journal
  • The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for its free 10-week Citizens Academy until March 31. Classes will meet Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting April 14, and graduation is scheduled for June 16.  Rutherford County Source
  • Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Chief Mark McCluskey spoke on WGNS Action Line about the department’s evolution from its 1903 volunteer roots to its current 11-station operation. He noted rising motorcycle and outdoor incidents as temperatures climb and urged residents to use Community Connect — a service that speeds response.  WGNS

  • Reflect Wellness in Murfreesboro celebrated its ribbon cutting on Monday, Mar. 2 at 1 p.m. at 1508 Carl Adams Drive (Suite 320) as it officially opened to serve the community.  Murfreesboro.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee’s men’s basketball team has won three games and is preparing for conference tournament matchups against FIU and Missouri State this weekend. MTSU coach Nick McDevitt said (the team will focus on both offense and defense) as they aim to climb the standings.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Blackman and Riverdale were placed on probation by the TSSAA Tuesday, March 3 for recruiting violations from improper social media contact by assistant coaches; the sanctions included forfeited practice days+ scrimmages+ and mandatory rules education.  WGNS
  • After two postponements, MTSU club hockey is set to renew its rivalry with Vanderbilt today at 7 p.m. in Music City at Bridgestone Arena. The Blue Raiders, holding a 2-0 edge, will use the NHL stage to boost defense ahead of the national tournament.  MTSU Sidelines
