CULTURE NEWS

  • MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation is working with Vincent Windrow and the Friends of Cemetery School to restore an old segregated school in Murfreesboro as a museum and community center planned to open in summer 2026 — the project will preserve classroom artifacts and offer local students hands-on history lessons. Graduate students will also use the site for practical field experience in historic preservation.  Murfreesboro Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rutherford Mayor Joe Carr said he opposes expanding the private Middle Point Landfill on adjacent county land—land that is planned for a future solid waste transfer station.  The Daily News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Heritage senior Carsyn Swaney scored 22 points to lead her team to a 60-36 win over Portland in the TSSAA Class 3A quarterfinals at Murphy Center—Heritage now holds a 33-2 record and will play South Gibson at 4 p.m. Friday.  The Daily News Journal
  • MTSU men's basketball won 77-75 in double overtime against Louisiana Tech at the Von Braun Center to reach the Conference USA Tournament semifinals. The Blue Raiders, now 22-10, will face Jacksonville State Friday at 2 p.m.—Mostafa’s putback with 16 seconds left was the winning play.  The Daily News Journal
  • Middle Tennessee beat Belmont 7-3 on Wednesday night as southpaw Cole Torbett made his first start of the season by pitching four innings with one run allowed and Brett Vondohlen hit his conference-leading eighth home run for a three-run score—boosting the team’s win.  Rutherford County Source
  • Eight quarterfinal games for Class 3A and 4A begin on Thursday at the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro—teams like Heritage, White County and Northview Academy join past winners from Dyersburg and Jackson South Side.
