COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Planning committees are working to host the annual Kittrell Reunion at Kittrell School — located at 7801 Old Woodbury Pike — on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Former students and others are invited to share a box of memories and to donate funds for next year's festivities.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brett McArdle — from the Consolidated Utility District — presented the 2024 year-end report on water conservation efforts; he outlined key accomplishments, challenges, and planned improvements for water services that will guide projects in 2025.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Murfreesboro Transportation Department Deputy Director Ram Balachandran has unveiled a computer model that shows local construction projects will cause lane closures and traffic shifts until March 22nd, 2025—projects include work on Old Butler Dr, Hwy 99, Minor St, and Bridge Ave along with gas, sewer, fiber, and electrical upgrades with proper controls in place. Mixed weather with lows near freezing and highs in the 60s may add travel delays—drivers are advised to allow extra time.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Greenfield girls basketball team won the TSSAA state championship trophy at Saturday's Class 1A title game at MTSU's Murphy Center by beating Van Buren 49-46. Coach Tori Liggett—who spent 15 years coaching at Greenfield Middle—said the win marks a full-circle moment for her and the town.  The Daily News Journal
  • The TSSAA girls basketball state championships took place Saturday at MTSU’s Murphy Center—teams competed in four classes for a gold ball while Van Buren made its first state appearance in Class 1A. Westview faced York Institute at 1:30 p.m., Heritage played Northview Academy at 4 p.m. and Class 4A teams met at 6:30 p.m.—the exciting tournament drew statewide attention.  The Daily News Journal
  • Middle Tennessee’s women’s basketball team lost to Liberty on Saturday by a score of 53+48 when Liberty hit two free throws with very little time left, and coach Rick Insell said that 10 turnovers and weak rebounding cost his team the win.  Murfreesboro Post
