ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Weekend storms caused an EF—1 tornado in Christiana and flooding on 35 south county roads, and Rutherford County emergency responders rescued motorists from water-covered roads, clearing the routes by Monday morning. County officials also opened public safety buildings with tornado safe rooms that can shelter 200 people during severe weather.  The Daily News Journal

  • Rockvale’s Chris Payton is changing the car-buying experience in Middle Tennessee with his company, The 615 Middle Man, which offers full-service negotiation and one-on-one coaching—teaching buyers how to beat dealer tactics and secure better deals. Payton, a former dealership sales manager with 16 years of experience, works to help local buyers avoid costly mistakes.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Construction continues for the new Buc-ee's gas station and store next to the I-24 / Joe B. Jackson interchange with plans for 76,245 square feet, 120 fuel pumps, electric charging stations+ a walking trail and an opening in 2026. A Trader Joe's grocery store will open next month on Medical Center Parkway, offering a range of specialty and international foods for local shoppers.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Historical Society held its popular Show and Tell Banquet on March 17 with about 40 guests, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. and dinner served at 6:30 p.m.—the event celebrated St. Patrick's Day heritage. It invites community members to visit the Ransom School House every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for coffee and conversation.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU hosted its fifth annual tourism, leisure and sport management career fair in the Student Union Ballroom where nearly 30 vendors from across the region joined to provide networking opportunities. Students met representatives from leading companies — including Gaylord Opryland and Nashville Sounds — to explore internships and potential job positions.  Murfreesboro.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Murfreesboro city construction projects are scheduled from March 16 through 22 and affect several roads—including Old Butler Dr near Joe B Jackson, Hwy 99 near Rockvale Elementary, Minor St, Bridge Ave, DeJarnette Ln, and TDOT projects on I-24 and I-840—with contractors installing bypass lanes, roadway improvements, sewer tie-ins, fiber, and electric upgrades so drivers may face lane shifts and reduced traffic lanes.  Rutherford County Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Auburn track star Ja'Kobe Tharp won his first national championship in the 60-meter hurdles on March 15 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach—he ran a lifetime-best 7.45 seconds and broke his school record.
