EDUCATION NEWS

  • NewsChannel 5 reporters Chris Davis and Levi Ismail visited MTSU on March 17 to talk with digital media students about their careers and how they use social media for short-form storytelling — Davis led the discussion while Ismail explained his work at the station and his popular TikTok account — and they stressed that building a strong personal brand is key for future jobs.  MTSU Sidelines
  • MTSU professor Johnny Ruhl said he will keep teaching his 12-week hiking and backpacking class even after over 1,000 National Parks Service workers were fired on February 14 by the government. He said he would only stop teaching if someone tells him how to run his course — a change that would hurt his students' chance to learn outdoor survival skills.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

The proposed settlement awaits federal judge approval — it will allow athletes to secure deals before enrollment and let third parties negotiate during recruitment windows.  FOX 17
  • Rutherford County Sheriff Lt. Michael Rodgers is leading a three-year study on VR training for police — the project is supported by a nearly $700,000 grant and $315,000 from MTSU and is now in its second year. Middle Tennessee State University is also using $550,000 in federal funds to help rural libraries offer VR career training for adults with limited resources.  WGNS
