  • Middle Tennessee veteran Reginald Monteiro was honored with Bart Durham Injury Law's FOX 17 Military Appreciation Award for his service overseas and his community work with Youth Villages, foster care, and juvenile justice reform while he pursues a law degree at Nashville School of Law.  FOX 17

  • The Better Business Bureau warns homeowners about contractors who appear after severe storms to offer quick and low cost repairs. It urges consumers to verify licenses (and get multiple written estimates) to avoid scams as communities recover from damage by tornadoes, high winds, and hail.  Rutherford County Source
  • A Super 9 gas station is under construction at 231 Shelbyville Highway and Rucker Lane and is slated to open in late April to early May. The project will feature four fueling stations with eight pumps + a convenience store for local commuters and residents.  Murfreesboro.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Discovery Center’s Artist-in-Residence program is showcasing live art demos and hands-on workshops for families this spring. The series features Haniyfa Muhammad Branka with sessions from March 8 to April 12 and local painter Ansleigh Britain starting April 15 to May 20 at the museum (502 SE Broad Street).  Murfreesboro.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Library System will launch Science Across America to document 250 acts of science in celebration of the upcoming U.S. semiquincentennial. The program will feature Earth Day demonstrations next month and offer science lab sessions at the Technology Engagement Center in Murfreesboro.  WGNS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rutherford County Soil & Water Conservation District offers free tree seedlings for local landowners today at 9 a.m. at the Lane Agri Park Complex — 315 John R. Rice Blvd., Suite 150 — on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of five seedlings per person.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The library board voted 7-3-1 on March 16 at the courthouse to move 145 books from the children’s section to the adult section — citing state law issues. Children may borrow these books with parental approval while ALA guidelines were removed.  Murfreesboro Post

  • Food service establishments in Rutherford County earned a perfect 100 on routine health inspections (March 11-18) as mandated by the Department of Health, with reports posted for public review.  Rutherford County Source
  • Rutherford County’s Department of Health released food service inspection scores from March 11 to 18, 2026, noting that all establishments must display their latest report publicly & inspection reports are available at local health offices.  Rutherford County Source

  • Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders will host a WNIT second-round basketball game at the Glass House as they extend their postseason streak, with further game details to be announced.  WGNS
  • Middle Tennessee senior Karim Al-Amin earned his first Conference USA Athlete of the Week honor as announced by the league, marking a milestone in his athletic career.  WGNS
