BUSINESS NEWS

  • Construction is in progress for Murfreesboro’s first In-N-Out Burger near Clari Park on Medical Center Parkway—expected to take eight to nine months to complete. The new restaurant will initially hire about 50 workers—applications will begin four to six weeks before it opens.  The Daily News Journal
  • Dollar General announced that nearly 100 stores and 45 Popshelf stores will close in the first quarter of 2025 — the company said six Popshelf locations will convert to Dollar General stores but did not specify which ones. Tennessee shoppers may see changes as the retailer has hundreds of Dollar General outlets and 11 Popshelf locations in the state.  The Daily News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 18, a road rage incident on Northwest Broad Street escalated when a silver Honda Odyssey driver smashed a white Dodge Ram’s windows and rammed it at a traffic light—he later disturbed TriStar Stone Crest Hospital while taking a passenger for treatment and was arrested by Smyrna police as the Dodge driver suffered a hand injury.  Murfreesboro.com
  • On March 19, Murfreesboro Police reported that a silver Honda Odyssey driver got into a road rage incident on Northwest Broad Street—he smashed a white Dodge Ram's window, taillight, and mirror then rammed the truck before fleeing—and he was later arrested outside TriStar Stone Crest Hospital and charged with aggravated assault and felony vandalism while further charges for the Dodge driver remain pending.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Scholars Day was held at the MTSU Science Building on March 18 with a poster contest where students from the College of Basic and Applied Sciences showed their research (categories: undergraduate, master, doctoral) and networked with faculty mentors. Winners included a student studying early Alzheimer’s detection and another who developed a cheaper method to test cannabis-related compounds.  MTSU Sidelines

HEALTH NEWS

  • A potential measles case was reported at Currey Ingram Academy — officials said in a community letter that the case remains unconfirmed.  NewsChannel 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at MTSU’s Murphy Center the TSSAA boys basketball state tournament features Class 3A and 4A quarterfinal games after Class 1A and 2A rounds played March 19. Local stations are airing the games + fans can look forward to Friday semifinals and Saturday championships.  The Daily News Journal
  • The Middle Tennessee men's basketball season ended Tuesday night in the NIT first round as the team lost to Chattanooga 109-103 in triple overtime. The game marked the program's fifth triple overtime contest — Mostafa tied his career high with 30 points and Weston set a new record with 31.  Rutherford County Source
