  • Today at 10:00 a.m., the Horizon Group is hosting a free Community Engagement Collaborative at the Patterson Community Center—located at 521 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd—to discuss housing, economic development and voting rights. The event will feature local leaders, including former City Councilman Ron Washington and a panel moderated by Dr. Gloria Bonner, and will include a Q&A session for public input.  WGNS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Forever 21 in Murfreesboro posted a sign that it will close soon with only 10 days left to shop at The Avenue Murfreesboro on Medical Center Parkway—local fans like Charlene Da Silva worry about finding similar fashionable clothes. The closure is part of a national bankruptcy filing that will see all U.S. stores shut down due to growing competition and economic challenges.  The Daily News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • MTSU’s Indian and Nepali Associations hosted a colorful Holi celebration at the Student Union Commons on March 19 where students tossed gulal and played with water hoses. The event celebrated spring’s arrival and the idea of good over evil — uniting the campus community.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Marie Dingle, a 101-year-old local who worked on B-17 bombers during World War II, now lives in Tennessee and recently flew in one of the planes she helped build. She said her secret to a long life is to never hold a grudge - a message that honors the legacy of women workers.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Murfreesboro City Schools honored the district’s 2024-2025 Teachers of the Year on March 18—recognizing Dr. Ashley Mushamba from Mitchell-Neilson Elementary and Hannah Bowe from Black Fox Elementary as well as awarding novice teacher Helen Belcher from Cason Lane Academy. Family, staff and principals attended the ceremony and the honorees will prepare for regional and state competitions for Tennessee Teacher of the Year.  Murfreesboro Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Riverdale High School hosted the St. Baldrick's Brave the Shave event on March 21 at 2:00 p.m. to raise $20,000 for childhood cancer research as over 95 participants ranging in age from 6 to 70 shaved their heads or cut their hair in support of better treatments for young patients.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • The MTSU baseball team—known as the Blue Raiders—began conference play against Dallas Baptist on March 21 in Dallas. Coach Jerry Meyers said the team—boosted by returning key players—hopes to build on its 12-8 nonconference record as it faces a challenging schedule ahead.  MTSU Sidelines
  • On Friday, March 21, TSSAA boys basketball semifinal games were held at MTSU's Murphy Center — teams across Tennessee competed and advanced toward Saturday's championships scheduled for 4 p.m. in Class 3A and 6:30 p.m. in Class 4A.  The Daily News Journal
