CULTURE NEWS

  • Oflow is hosting an Easter Bunny Photos and Cookie Decorating Event on Saturday, Apr. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—customers can decorate cookies for $5 each or 3 for $10 and take a free photo with the Easter Bunny, with no reservations needed.  Rutherford County Source
  • Gilda’s Club Middle Tennessee will host its eighth Songwriter’s Night on Saturday, Apr. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Reserve at Fat Bottom Brewing, featuring performances by Chris Sligh, Cameron Bedell, and Jace Everett.   • The Oaklands Mansion (901 North Maney Avenue) will host the David Maney: From Enslavement to Legacy Event on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 2:00 p.m. where retired educator Elma McKnight, a direct descendant, will share her ancestor’s story while light refreshments are served and no reservation is needed.  Rutherford County Source

  • Following Winter Storm Fern, over 62,000 free native tree saplings were distributed during Tennessee Tree Day on March 20 and 21 at more than 100 sites in Middle Tennessee to help replace over 1,000 acres of lost tree canopy.  The Daily News Journal

  • Middle Tennessee track and field closed the Yellow Jacket Invitational — setting multiple personal records and earning a runner-up finish — on the final day in Atlanta. The Blue Raiders now hope to build on this performance in upcoming meets.  WGNS
  • Auburn junior Ja’kobe Tharp won the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Track and Field Indoor Championships at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, setting a new meet record at 7.32 seconds & earning his second consecutive title.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Yesterday, Predators moved into the second wild-card spot when they beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-1 at Bridgestone Arena, with Stamkos scoring early in the game and finishing with two goals and an assist — losses by Los Angeles and Seattle helped secure the win.  The Daily News Journal
  • The TSSAA boys basketball state championships were held yesterday at MTSU's Murphy Center with Class 2A and 3A games at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. + Class 4A and 1A games at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Local teams fought for state titles.  The Daily News Journal
  • MTSU club hockey ended its ACHA tournament run on March 4 after a 3-1 loss to Grand Valley State at the Centene Community Ice Center (following wins over Saint Vincent and Northwood), marking a strong season with 16 weeks ranked No. 1.  MTSU Sidelines
