TBI special agents continue to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 23 (4:15 p.m.) when officers responded to a domestic call at a home on the 2600 block of Goose Creek Lane in Murfreesboro, where a suspect armed with a shotgun threatened them and after two officers fired SWAT entered and found the man deceased (no officers were injured) while an autopsy will determine his cause of death.

Evan Staples, a new firefighter with the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department, had an eventful 2024 as he lost 37 pounds to compete in natural bodybuilding, finished his last year at MTSU and got engaged before joining the fire academy.

He now serves Murfreesboro and plans to stay in his hometown for the long haul while answering calls and easing hard days for those in need.

The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department reminded residents on March 24th to follow key fire safety tips during spring cleaning—advice that included testing alarms, inspecting electrical cords, cleaning dryer vents and safely storing flammable materials.

This advice aimed to help prevent household fires in local homes.

Today MFRD is reminding residents and business owners to keep streets and emergency routes clear—this means not parking in fire lanes, near hydrants, or around intersections so first responders can reach emergencies fast.

Fire Chief Mark McCluskey said that every minute counts when over 20,000 emergency calls are answered each year and the community is urged to report any blockages.
