- ➤ Veterans Park in Murfreesboro will break ground today as Parks Director Nate Williams announced a 150-acre park along Veterans Parkway near Saint Thomas Westlawn Hospital that will include walking trails, 4 large pavilions, pickleball courts and a destination playground — the exact construction timeline is not yet known — to serve local outdoor enthusiasts. - ➤ Local residents have five weekend events to choose from in Rutherford including a Tulip Festival at Lucky Ladd Farms running now through Sunday, April 13, a Flower Stand event at Sugarbush Farms’ Nature Center available today and tomorrow, a Permanent Jewelry Pop Up on Sunday, March 30, a Painting with Encaustics class on Saturday, March 29, and a Coffee Marathon at Patterson Park Community Center set for Friday, May 30 — each event offering a unique family-friendly experience. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office warns that scammers are calling residents with false grand jury duty alerts, fake arrest warrants and requests to pay fines by cash, gift cards or Bitcoin—if you get such a call, hang up immediately—to keep your money safe. WGNS
- ➤ On March 27, 2025, U.S. courts sentenced 27 people for a drug and money laundering crime that ran from 2018 to 2021 and used smuggled cell phones to send drugs like meth, heroin, fentanyl, and marijuana into middle Tennessee—sentences ranged from 12 months to life—and six of the people from Mexico will face deportation after they finish serving their time while two still have not been caught. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On March 20, the Rutherford County Board of Education voted 5—2 to reinstate a short meeting prayer for divine guidance at its meetings instead of a moment of silence. The board could face over $1M in legal costs if its decision is challenged—members said that joining the prayer will remain voluntary. The Daily News Journal

- ➤ Murfreesboro Fire Rescue reminds residents to take fire safety steps during storms by unplugging electronics and avoiding wired devices to lessen risks from lightning. Fire chief Mark McCluskey said residents should stay indoors, check smoke alarms, and prepare emergency kits (the NFPA estimates lightning causes about 22,600 fires annually).
