BUSINESS NEWS

  • Barrett Firearms won an $848,376 tax break to build a $76.4M replacement factory and add 183 jobs in the Christiana community. The new 250,000-square-foot campus at 8808 Manchester Pike will boost the workforce to about 400 employees—driving local growth.  The Daily News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • MTSU Student Dance Gala showcased lively performances at the Tucker Theatre as student choreographers told personal stories through creative routines on March 27 and 28, and the dynamic pieces — from elegant moves to playful sequences — impressed local audiences.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Murfreesboro-based 1:1 Soul won the Cultural Arts Fourth Annual Battle of the Bands on March 22 at Patterson Park Community Center’s Washington Theatre by beating out seven other bands. The band performed three original songs—an event that Parks and Recreation said showcased local talent.  Murfreesboro Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee State University earned THEC approval for its new Master of Science in Legal Studies on March 28th—final review by SACSCOC is still pending. The program, offered with the Nashville School of Law and managed by the Jennings A. Jones College of Business, will enroll its first students in summer 2026.  Murfreesboro.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Murfreesboro City Council approved a $5.35 million contract (including 5% contingency) on March 27 for the Rutherford Adaptive Signal Control Technology project to upgrade 14 intersections and ease congestion. Construction will start in the coming months with federal and local funds, and an additional $357,323 addendum for construction administration was approved.  Rutherford County Source
  • The newly realigned Butler Dr is now open to traffic after construction moved its intersection to connect with Joe B. Jackson Pkwy—Old Butler Dr is closed to and from the parkway with traffic controls in place.  City of Murfreesboro
  • Yesterday, Murfreesboro government held the groundbreaking for Veterans Park in the Blackman community at 10 a.m. The $16.5 million park was built under budget on land exchanged with a utility—its future features include trails, eight pickleball courts, a special playground and space for an elementary school and public services, and it will open in about 18 months.  The Daily News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jacob Johnson, an MTSU senior basketball player, received the Winter Spirit of Service Award from Conference USA on Friday for his volunteer work with Special Olympics Tennessee (supporting a bowling event, basketball clinic, and Literacy Week) and strong academics. He played in 20 contests this season and holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA.  Murfreesboro Post
