  • Lane Agri-Park hosts free April events including the Annual Adventures in Agriculture on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a Master Gardener’s Spring Equinox Workshop on April 18 in its auditorium (a $10 fee applies) along with adult sewing classes starting April 27 and 4‑H photo contests.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Crying Cat Books and Records marked its 5th birthday on March 22 at 504 North Maney Ave when local musicians and vendors gathered for live acoustic sets and art displays. The event celebrated community creativity and provided a welcoming space for all visitors.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Cripple Creek Cloggers—a Rutherford County favorite—kick off spring with teaching and a performance at Cedar Glade Brews on Friday, April 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. The troupe also plans local shows at assisted living centers and at International Folkfest in June to celebrate Appalachian dance and culture.  WGNS

  • Chris Jones from Middle Tennessee Electric has shared a monthly update covering the ice storm cleanup & current power costs while explaining why local electricity rates remain low compared to the national average. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marie Patterson, founding director of MTSU’s Physician Assistant Studies program, was inducted into the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants Hall of Fame this year (recognizing her decades of service and innovation) in Murfreesboro.  WGNS
  • Four local schools were placed on lockdown Friday after safety scares, including a report of an armed student at Blackfox Elementary and shots fired near Discovery School & Bradley Academy, with police later confirming no threats and lifting the measures.  WGNS
  • Oakland High's FFA chapter earned top honors at the Tennessee FFA State Convention in Gatlinburg from March 22 to 25 as Annabelle Alexis was elected FFA State Treasurer and the team secured 13 wins, six runner-up finishes and 19 state honors in agriscience, leadership and career events.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City Council approved $598,525 in funding for 30 nonprofits on Thursday, Mar. 26 (22% more than FY26) as part of the Community Investment Trust for FY27 to boost local services like affordable housing and youth programs.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Liberty Creek baseball swept Gallatin on Friday and Saturday to improve their season record to 13-1, with Lucas Banks driving an 11-0 run-rule win on Saturday through five RBIs. The Wolves remained strong thanks to solid hitting and pitching throughout the games.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Brentwood Academy wide receiver Kesean Bowman committed to Tennessee football on March 28 when coach Josh Heupel visited his school — Bowman, the No. 2 state prospect for 2027, recorded 49 catches last season and chose Tennessee over other top programs.  The Daily News Journal
  • MTSU senior Ansley Blevins is building her legacy with powerful hitting and leadership in her final softball season — she is batting .260 with four home runs at Blue Raider Softball Field as she prepares to graduate.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Middle Tennessee won an 8-7 game on Saturday to clinch the series against New Mexico State in Murfreesboro. The win improved the team's season record (15-12) and kept their momentum strong for upcoming games.  WGNS
