COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rhythm Volleyball Academy held its ribbon cutting ceremony on March 26 at 2139 Logistics Wy in Murfreesboro—marking its official opening for the community.  Murfreesboro.com
  • City officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday morning at the 150-acre Veterans Memorial Park site at 4908 Veterans Parkway—designed to honor military veterans with walking trails, a destination playground, pavilions, pickleball courts and an outdoor event space for concerts and festivals. The park will open in about 18 months as planned.  WGNS

CRIME NEWS

  • Murfreesboro police responded to a car vs pedestrian incident Friday evening on South Church near I-24 and transported the injured man to Vanderbilt Trauma Center in Nashville—his condition is very critical as investigators measured evidence, interviewed witnesses and reopened the road shortly after 10:00 p.m.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU Photo Society and Vanderbilt photography students built a camera obscura on March 28 outside Peck Hall in Murfreesboro—demonstrating an old photography technique where light projects an upside down image on a wall.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Middle Tennessee State University will host journalist Sam Quinones for his lecture 'From Crisis to Community: Stories of Hope in the Shadow of Fentanyl' on Monday, April 7 at 6 p.m. in Room 104 of the Academic Classroom Building at 1751 MTSU Blvd – the event kicks off National Public Health Week and follows a semester-long virtual book club on his work.  WGNS
  • Rutherford County Schools received a four-million-dollar bonus on Saint Patrick’s Day because 54% of its schools earned A’s on the state report card. The district will announce soon how it will reinvest the funds (one of only two districts to get the highest bonus) to support its students.  Murfreesboro.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jacob Johnson, a Middle Tennessee basketball student-athlete, was named the Winter Spirit of Service award winner for his work with Special Olympics Tennessee at a local bowling event, running an elementary school clinic, and assisting during Literacy Week—an honor recognizing community service, academic achievements, and athletic participation.   • On Friday night, the Central Magnet Lady Tigers beat La Vergne 21-10 in a non-district game—freshman Sophia Croasdaile led the team with four hits and two doubles—helping the Tigers surpass last season’s win total.  Murfreesboro Post
