EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rutherford County school officials say aging buildings need nearly $500 million in repairs—$325 million of which is for outdated HVAC systems—as crews work with a $19 million annual budget to prioritize essential upgrades for student safety.  FOX 17
  • Riverdale High School unveiled a 2,700 sqft greenhouse to boost its agriculture program, offering nearly five times more space for hands-on learning. The school held a ribbon cutting on Friday, Mar. 27 (project planning began in 2018) with funding from the 2022 Innovative School Models Grant.  Rutherford County Source

  • The National Weather Service reports that tornado activity in Middle Tennessee is shifting east toward counties (Davidson, Wilson, and Shelby) over decades. Residents are urged to stay alert this severe weather season as forecasts predict flash floods and damaging winds even as tornado counts trend lower.  The Daily News Journal

  • A study shows Rutherford County leads new home construction compared to older housing across the country. In Murfreesboro, dwelling permits increased 8% in January 2026, and the city collected about $190,506 in impact fees for roads & parks, public safety, and schools to fund local infrastructure.  WGNS
