CRIME NEWS

  • Murfreesboro officers are searching for a man accused of robbing the Dollar General on Halls Hill Pike at gunpoint around 3:30 p.m. on April 1 as he was last seen running toward Grove Apartments and described as wearing all black (hoodie, sunglasses, gloves) with reddish hair and a beard.  Rutherford County Source
  • The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office asked for help identifying two men in a silver sedan—suspected in several vehicle break-ins and thefts from residential areas off Manchester Pike early Wednesday at about 3 a.m. and linked to related burglaries near Bradyville Pike and Manchester Highway targeting stored firearms.  Rutherford County Source

  • A Tennessee state Senate subcommittee passed a bill that may let school districts check the residency status of undocumented K-12 students to decide if they can attend free public school or enroll in tuition-based options; the bill passed on April 1 with a 7—4 vote and will move to the full Senate for further review.  MTSU Sidelines

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rain, hail and possible tornadoes are expected across Middle and West Tennessee starting late Wednesday and continuing through the weekend. Some areas may receive up to 10 inches of rain and the National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for Nashville until 4 a.m. today and for Memphis, with forecasters warning of historic flash flooding — urging residents to be prepared.  The Daily News Journal

  • General Sessions Judge Robin Kimbrough Hayes offered free courthouse wedding ceremonies in her chambers on Tuesday— a Murfreesboro couple signed papers, took photos and saved on expensive wedding costs. She has performed over 800 ceremonies and received wedding requests from couples around the world.  NewsChannel 5

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Health confirmed three new measles cases in Middle Tennessee, which brings the total to four with two cases in the Mid-Cumberland and two in the Upper Cumberland areas. All patients are recovering at home — officials are working to find anyone else who may have been exposed amid a national outbreak.  NewsChannel 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 28th, redshirt freshman Brett Rogers led Middle Tennessee with five hits in a 14 to 9 win over Lipscomb as he hit four singles, a home run to the opposite field and drew a walk. Coach Jerry Meyers said his performance built an early 6 to 2 lead that set the stage for the Blue Raiders' win.  MTSU Sidelines
