  • Director Luanne James was fired on March 30 for refusing to move flagged books from the kids section, and community supporters raised nearly $80K to help with her family's expenses. A screening of *The Librarians* is planned for April 17 in downtown Murfreesboro to highlight freedom of access to information.  The Daily News Journal
  • A new traffic signal at Veterans Parkway and Rucker Lane is set to become fully operational soon, while Linebaugh Public Library launches a propagation station with community events and a recent MTSU report shows uneven growth in local home prices.  WGNS
  • The Barfield Beach Party will take place at Barfield Park at 697 Veterans Parkway in Murfreesboro on Friday, May 1 from 5 pm to 7 pm. The free event will feature music, games, dancing and sand castle building for all ages.  City of Murfreesboro

  • Three Mothers Cuisine & Bakery was founded by longtime friends Luis Talavera, Danny Hernandez, and Alberto Cortez to honor their mothers with comforting meals like Chicken Noodle Soup and inventive pastries. Located at 1002 Memorial Blvd. and 5131 Franklin Rd., the restaurant has quickly become a local favorite in Murfreesboro.  WGNS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local conservation groups and Outdoor Murfreesboro are hosting Earth Week Outdoors from Apr. 20 to Apr. 24, offering guided hikes, hands-on stewardship projects and water or land adventures in various local parks (details are available on the event schedule).  City of Murfreesboro

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS announced relief for Tennessee taxpayers impacted by Winter Storm Fern that extends deadlines for filing and payments until May 22, covering individual and business tax returns. Relief applies to more than 20 counties including Davidson+Rutherford.  NewsChannel 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • MTSU’s women’s volleyball team signed 16-year-old Cheyenne Shuler through Team Impact on March 25 at the Student Athlete Performance Center. She will join the team for home matches in April (marking the two-year partnership’s first volleyball signing).  MTSU Sidelines
  • On Thursday, Apr. 2, the Predators beat the Kings 5-4 at Crypto.com Arena in a 16-round shootout when Luke Evangelista scored his walk-off goal as Juuse Saros made 29 saves to secure the win.  Rutherford County Source
  • Former MTSU quarterback Nick Vattiato overcame a torn pectoral injury and trained at Pro Day (held at Johnny 'Red' Floyd Stadium) to pursue NFL opportunities. He worked on daily rehab while guiding teammates after stepping away from active play in his final season.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Luke Evangelista scored the shootout-winning goal for the Predators in a 5-4 win over the Kings on April 3—his goal moved Nashville into a tie for the second wild card spot. The team will face the Sharks today at 9 p.m. CT.  The Daily News Journal
