- ➤ Rutherford County PAWS will host its annual western themed Dog Gone Adoption Event on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 285 John R Rice Blvd to help shelter pets find new homes. All adoptable pets are spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center used gunshot detection sensors—without 911 calls—to arrest three suspects in two shooting incidents on March 17 and March 28; the 19-year-old suspect was caught on Lee Street after a shot fired at a pickup truck during a disputed PlayStation 5 sale while two motorcyclists were detained at a business parking lot on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard following a car show. - ➤ Finnish American photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen displayed his exhibit 'What Happens Inside Your Mind Can Happen Inside A Camera' at MTSU’s Baldwin Photographic Gallery on April 2—he then gave a 90-minute talk on his long career and creative process—drawing local interest from photography students and art fans. - ➤ Since April 2, MTSU Department of Economics celebrated Financial Literacy Month with games, keynote speakers and up to $10,000 in financial aid awards, and the program will continue until April 16 with a video challenge open until April 21—designed to help students learn about personal finance and investing. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, residents can safely dispose of hazardous household items at a free collection event organized by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation at the City of Murfreesboro Solid Waste Department, 4765 Florence Road — the event runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Acceptable items include cleaning fluids, pesticides, aerosols, adhesives, brake fluid, pool chemicals, paint thinner, batteries, and mercury thermometers — paint and electronic waste will not be accepted. - ➤ Republic Services hosted a town hall meeting in Murfreesboro to discuss the future of the Middle Point Landfill—residents voiced concerns about landfill capacity and environmental impact while asking questions about proposed changes. - ➤ Murfreesboro held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 28 for a long-planned Veterans Park that spans 150 acres and offers a playground, four pavilions, pickleball courts and a walking trail network — city leaders noted the cost dropped from the expected $20 million to $16.5 million.
