COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Town Creek is being daylighted along NW Broad Street as a pedestrian-friendly greenway with water views, live music, and food vendors. City officials say construction will be complete by October to meet federal funding requirements.  WGNS
  • Murfreesboro Fire Rescue is urging residents and businesses to sign up for Community Connect (a secure online platform that lets first responders access vital details like medical needs, property info, and mobility conditions) to ensure faster, safer emergency responses.  WGNS
  • At MTSU’s James Union Building, a free resource fair for veterans is scheduled for Saturday, April 25. Organized by the MTSU Student Veterans Association and Daniels Veterans Center, the event will connect military families with benefits, job guidance, and local support.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Oaklands Mansion acquired 38 pieces of Victorian hair art from Leila's Hair Museum — the museum will unveil the collection on Friday, April 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maney Hall with a special presentation and future workshops.  WGNS
  • GloRilla will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 at the Murphy Center (selected through a campus survey and committee input). The event continues a student-led tradition of engaging campus culture through live performances.  MTSU Sidelines
  • GallagherFest returns to downtown Murfreesboro on May 16 and will feature headliners Shadowgrass, Sicard Hollow, and Airshow. The festival will include live music across two stages (with workshops, a flatpicking contest, and interactive events) and offers $10 passes with free admission for children 12 and under.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU Student Support Services has received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand free tutoring, counseling and support for low-income, first-generation or disabled students. Director Melissa Towe secured the TRIO grant (her third successful cycle) to aid 175 students under the program.  MTSU Sidelines

SPORTS NEWS

  • Senior pitcher Mary Martinez stepped away from the MTSU softball team halfway through the season, leaving the Blue Raider pitching staff with a gap as freshmen and seniors step in amid a 13-21 record and eight-game losing streak.
