ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Around 6:00 p.m. Saturday (local time), Rutherford County Fire Rescue arrived at a burning home on Majesty Drive and rescued one person, with paramedics treating the victim before transport to the hospital.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • The American Battlefield Trust received a $199,273.82 grant to acquire a 5.09+ acre tract near Stones River National Battlefield in Rutherford County as part of its effort to reconnect fragmented Civil War sites; the funds were awarded by the Tennessee Wars Commission for Fiscal Year 2025.  WGNS
  • Three DAR chapters bring the American Revolution Experience to Linebaugh Library beginning Wednesday, June 3, where the exhibit runs through June 10. An Opening Night Celebration at 5 p.m. features a guest speaker & interactive children’s programs that connect visitors with early American history.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UT and TSU Agricultural Extension Service launched a $300,000 seed funding initiative at Lane Agri-Park that supports six joint projects focusing on smart-farm technology, soil health monitoring & food innovation to boost local agriculture.  WGNS
  • MTSU officials broke ground on Womack Commons on April 8 at a ceremony attended by students, faculty, and staff. The $83 million project will feature 554 beds & 593 parking spots with a parking garage for residential students and is slated for completion in summer.  MTSU Sidelines
  • Murfreesboro City Schools named Kimberly Hix the new principal of Cason Lane Academy for the upcoming school year — a former student with 11 years of education experience.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers are considering banning kratom after the death of Matthew Davenport spurred a proposal on April 9 (following committee recommendations and House clearance). The bill would make possession a misdemeanor and sales a felony across the state.  The Daily News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • MTSU professor Chandra Story, an AHA board member, urges the community to join the Rutherford County Heart Walk on Saturday, April 18 at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic’s Garrison location. The family-friendly event will feature a 1- or 2-mile loop (flat terrain), CPR demos, and blood pressure screenings.  Rutherford County Source
