- ➤ Trader Joe’s opened its 9,400 square foot store at 2305 Medical Center Parkway on April 10th, drawing local dignitaries and the Siegel High School marching band—Trader Joe’s hired 65 local crew members and will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. WGNS
- ➤ The Nissan plant in Smyrna has retained its two shifts after planning to cut to one shift in January as some Midstate employees benefit from new White House tariff policies. Nissan will also move Rogue SUV production from Japan to the United States — possibly starting this summer. FOX 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Rutherford County School Board voted Wednesday night to remove 16 books from school and classroom libraries, ending a review of 160 titles from November — six books will return to shelves with restrictions such as parental consent or grade limits. A gallery member was removed for shouting during the meeting — the next meeting is set for April 24 at 5:30 p.m. MTSU Sidelines
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 10, the Tennessee Senate passed a bill that will require public schools to verify the citizenship of incoming students and let each school decide to block enrollment or charge tuition for those who cannot prove legal status—A companion House bill is pending and may trigger a lawsuit if enacted. - ➤ Tax Day 2025 is on April 15 — people can still file an IRS extension for more time until October if needed; so far, 89,550,000 returns have been filed with an average refund of about $3,170 while experts warn of processing delays for paper checks and certain credit claims. - ➤ Taziki's Mediterranean Café announced on April 10 that it brought back its popular Grilled Fish available as a sandwich with crisp vegetables and chips or as a feast with Mediterranean salad and rice pilaf featuring its signature caper-dill sauce. - ➤ Barry Trotz announced that the Predators signed goaltender Matt Murray to a two-year, two-way contract—worth $775,000—for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons.
