- ➤ MTSU’s Student Government Association held Picnic ‘n Painting on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at the Student Union Commons, combining canvas painting, food trucks, and games to help students ease stress before finals — the event was part of the Spring Connection Point series. MTSU Sidelines
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rutherford Races to Read will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Oaklands Mansion, featuring a derby race with inflatable horse costumes to raise funds for the Library Foundation's literacy programs. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 for children (family deals available). WGNS
- ➤ Eighteen Smyrna High seniors taught Poplar Hill Elementary fifth graders about compound interest, savings, and opportunity costs during a personal finance session on April 8 at the school (using questions, stories, quizzes and games). - ➤ Smyrna Police and Fire Departments will relaunch the Youth Academy from June 1 to 5, 2026 (at Smyrna Fire Station #2 for children 8 to 13) and it runs Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a graduation Friday while enrollment is limited to 50. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ Friendship Christian’s softball team now relies on its youth after star player Izzy Wilson graduated; Coach Mike Kittrell said the young lineup—fueled by key contributions from infielder Box and pitching talent Johnson—has built a 15-5 record in the first 20 games and may return to state competition soon. - ➤ Friendship Christian baseball clinched home-field advantage in a 12-inning game on Friday by defeating Davidson Academy 7-6 at their home field. Perez Parker drove in the game-winning run as the Commanders extended their nine-game winning streak against local teams. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ Rockvale’s soccer team won 4-0 over Blackman Friday night at Homer Brown Field in its district home opener. The win improved Rockvale’s record to 2-0 while Blackman dropped to 2-2. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ Middle Tennessee seniors Freddy Murray and Karim Al-Amin were named to the 2026 Conference USA Men’s Tennis All-Academic Team, recognizing their athletic and classroom achievements at MTSU. This honor highlights the university’s commitment to excellence on campus. WGNS
