- ➤ Renovations at Patterson and Old Fort parks in Murfreesboro will make parking more challenging while adding new features. The projects will increase parking spaces from 200 to 285 and add improvements such as synthetic turf, LED lights, better storm drainage, an inclusive playground, and a new splash pad with work expected to finish in six months. - ➤ A motorcyclist died after a serious crash on North Rutherford Boulevard at Greenland Avenue on Thursday — the collision with another vehicle closed the intersection as investigators sought the cause — and drivers were advised to avoid the area. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ Trader Joe’s opened its new store on April 10 in Murfreesboro with a ribbon cutting at 8 a.m., offering giveaways, free samples, and a performance by Siegel High School. The store, Trader Joe’s fourth location in Middle Tennessee (with spring tote bags selling out by 8:42 a.m.), provided a closer option for local shoppers who once had to drive 30 miles. - ➤ A motorcyclist died from injuries the next morning after a 2016 Ford Fusion failed to yield at a green light on N. Rutherford Blvd at Greenland Ave in Murfreesboro late Thursday night, police said with the driver remaining uninjured. NewsChannel 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University Provost Mark Byrnes said on April 10 that four MTSU international students had their visas revoked after Homeland Security identified them and that they must return to their home countries. Byrnes added that faculty should follow specific protocols if Immigration enforcement officers visit campus — guidance provided in an email from his office — and he invited further questions from students. - ➤ Starting April 13, Murfreesboro will see several construction projects that will affect traffic with lane closures and detours on roads including New Butler Dr, Hwy 99, Minor St, Bridge Ave, and Veterans Pkwy. City and private contractors will work on road and sidewalk repairs until April 19 (with proper traffic controls in place). Rutherford County Source
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Murfreesboro school board unanimously opposed Tennessee House Bill 793 and Senate Bill 836 which would have let schools refuse enrollment to undocumented students. Vice chairwoman Amenda Moore and chairman Butch Campbell said the board supported a resolution to vote against the bills & questioned if they met constitutional standards & stressed that all children must be educated.
