ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, April 13, a bicyclist riding on the greenway veered off and down a small embankment near the river—Murfreesboro Fire Rescue crews quickly set up a technical rescue using a rope system and transferred the alert patient to a local hospital for evaluation.  WGNS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Homesense, a sister store of Home Goods, will have a soft opening at The Avenue on April 29 and a full opening on May 1—offering furniture, lighting, rugs, art and office furniture from top global brands at 30 to 50% off while customers must visit in person since online shopping and delivery will not be offered.  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At MTSU on April 10, 2025, the Army ROTC celebrated 75 years with a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial that included unearthing a 20-year-old time capsule and burying one for future cadets—retired officials and current leaders marked the occasion with speeches and Hall of Fame inductions. The program began in 1950 with 93 cadets and has since produced over 1,600 military officers.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 10, the Tennessee General Assembly passed House Bill 973 to extend the statute of limitations for 24 child sex abuse offenses—raising the limit from 25 years to 30 years after a victim turns 18 and lengthening the period for civil action. The law will cover cases happening after July 1 and now awaits Governor Bill Lee’s signature.  FOX 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • The athletic department will host the 14th Annual Raiders’ Choice Awards on May 1 at the MTSU Tucker Theatre—ticket requests are available through the BRAA office. Fans will vote online for three key award categories from April 21 to April 23, and the event will present 11 awards with a blue carpet starting at 6 p.m. and the ceremony beginning at 7 p.m.  Rutherford County Source
  • Riverdale's starting pitcher Liam Goodhart threw a complete game with 103 pitches while catcher Gunnar Waldrop recorded three RBIs to lead the team to a 10-2 district win that ended Blackman's eight-game winning streak—boosting the Warriors' record. Blackman now holds a 19-2 mark in district play while Riverdale stands at 12-13.  Murfreesboro Post
  • On April 8, Blackman beat Siegel 14-11 in the District 8 softball season opener as the visiting Lady Blaze earned their first district win. Sophia Sullivan said Blackman played with high energy to help secure the win.  Murfreesboro Post
