- ➤ MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation was named one of six recipients of a Library of Congress grant for Teaching with Primary Sources and will lead the new TPS Southern Region + awarding subgrants of up to $25,000 to local institutions. The center also will welcome Dr. Layla Smallwood as regional program specialist in May to boost its educational programming. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation was named as one of six recipients of a Library of Congress grant to create the TPS Southern Region that will offer subgrants of up to $25,000 for programs using primary sources. - ➤ Taxpayers in Tennessee and Arkansas affected by severe storms in early April had more time to file their taxes as the IRS granted an extension. The agency set a new deadline of November 3 for these areas — while those in other states with approved extensions will have until October 15 — and taxes owed were required by April 15 to avoid penalties. - ➤ The legislature unanimously passed a bill on April 15 that requires police to report every DUI charge where blood tests show a driver is sober—this data, collected by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation from 2026 through 2029, will help lawmakers address concerns from defense attorneys about charging sober drivers.
