  • The comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) may be visible today before sunrise in the eastern sky and will reach its closest approach to Earth on April 27 at 44 million miles away. Discovered in September 2025, the comet is best seen with binoculars or a telescope.  The Daily News Journal
  • Greenhouse Ministries celebrated its 27-year legacy on Thursday at The View at Fountains with breakfast and lunch events that highlighted new projects such as apartments at 307 S. Academy St., Ivy on Spring Coffee House opening this spring, and a planned 24-hour childcare center.  WGNS

  • Painted Tree Boutiques ended retail sales last week at its Franklin, Madison, and Murfreesboro locations, leaving hundreds of local business owners scrambling to pick up inventory until Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Rising costs and changing shopping habits forced the closure.  NewsChannel 5

  • The Rutherford County Archaeological Society is hosting a free meeting this Sunday (4/19) in Maney Hall at Oaklands Mansion at 901 N. Maney Avenue, where award winning historian Robbie D. Jones will discuss Civil Rights march routes as cultural landscapes starting at 2:00 p.m.  WGNS

  • George Rishfeld, a Holocaust survivor, spoke at MTSU’s Ned McWherter Learning Resources Center for Holocaust Remembrance Day on Wednesday, Apr. 15 — 155 community members gathered as the Holocaust Studies Program organized the event to share his survival story.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dispatcher Briana Morris was named the 2026 Telecommunicator of the Year by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. She received the award during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week (April 12–18) and was recognized for her strong teamwork and steady leadership.  Rutherford County Source
  • After a New York jury found Live Nation and Ticketmaster ran an illegal monopoly, Tennessee Attorney General Skrmetti said a judge will soon rule on remedies — a move that could break up the company and lower ticket prices. Authorities aim to boost competition in ticket sales.  The Daily News Journal

  • Tennessee basketball has landed four-star Providence Christian senior star Chris Washington Jr. after he visited on April 14 and signed on April 16 at PCA, having decommitted from Alabama; he helped lead his team to a state DII-A championship.  The Daily News Journal
  • Gavin King pitched four scoreless innings & struck out eight batters to help MTSU beat Belmont 10-8 in a 13-inning game at E.S. Rose Park on April 14. His focused routine shifted the game from a 7-1 deficit to a win for the Blue Raiders.  MTSU Sidelines
