EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tennessee GOP lawmakers advanced a proposal that would require proof of legal residency for schools for children to enroll from kindergarten to 12th grade, a change that could deny undocumented students free public education. The Senate version passed earlier this month and will be merged with a different House proposal before reaching Gov. Bill Lee — it is expected that the measure may face legal challenges if enacted.  FOX 17
  • The ACLU of Tennessee filed a lawsuit against the Rutherford County Board of Education on behalf of three local families after the board banned over 145 books from school libraries based on recommendations from Moms for Liberty — the suit argues that the removals violate First Amendment rights.  FOX 17
