  • The 13th Annual Boro BBQ Festival will take place Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hop Springs Park where the Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club will host live music, BBQ competitions, food vendors, craft booths, bounce houses, and a petting zoo—proceeds benefit local non-profits.  Murfreesboro.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • MFRD responded to a residential fire on Britannia Way on Sunday morning and quickly extinguished a fire in a bedroom; no injuries were reported and the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.  Rutherford County Source

  • Big Lots will reopen four stores in Tennessee on May 1 as part of a deal with Variety Wholesalers following its Chapter 11 filing in September. The locations in Cleveland, Knoxville, Murfreesboro + Rogersville will help revive the brand amid economic challenges from high inflation and interest rates.  The Daily News Journal

  • Cannonsburgh Village will host the 49th annual Pioneer Days on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event in Murfreesboro will feature live historical demonstrations, music, craft vendors, food trucks, a car show and an art show — all planned for a day of family fun.  WGNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Rutherford County drivers in Murfreesboro and Smyrna paid $2.58 per gallon for 87-octane—12 cents below the state average—and ranked 9th among all counties for gas prices, while Shelbyville drivers saved four cents and Williamson County drivers paid up to $3.18 per gallon. The statewide regular unleaded average was $2.70, and diesel prices dropped to $3.31 per gallon, holding Tennessee 14th for diesel affordability.  WGNS
  • Local businesses are set to boost productivity and expand their reach with United Communications’ fiber internet upgrade—providing faster speeds, lower latency, and increased bandwidth. EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU Fire Safety and Murfreesboro Fire Rescue led fire safety training for students and teens today to stress proper use of extinguishers and warn against distractions that lead to kitchen fires—such as unattended cooking and overheating devices. The annual Teen Fire Safety Academy will be held June 25—27 to teach hands-on emergency procedures.  MTSU Sidelines

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and private contractors are executing several road projects across Murfreesboro—from New Butler Dr Phase II work to tap and waterline installations on Saint Andrews Dr starting today—with lane closures and flagging operations in effect. Additional projects, including raised median installations on Joe B Jackson Pkwy and repairs on Veterans Pkwy, will run through late April to improve traffic flow.  Murfreesboro.com

  • The MTSU men’s tennis team won its sixth straight Conference USA title on Sunday — it shut out Liberty 4-0 and punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament. The team now awaits selection for the NCAA Regionals ahead of the tournament starting May 2.  Murfreesboro Post
