COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dollar General announced that roughly 100 of its stores will close by the end of 2025, including 17 in Murfreesboro, and experts say the closures may worsen food insecurity for low-income residents. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rutherford County school bus drivers’ group, which represents over 120 contractors running 200 buses, threatened to halt service on May 1 if the school board does not resume talks over a wage increase—contractors say a 17% raise is too low compared to their nearly 35% request in light of rising costs. The board also approved ending bus service next year for students living near schools, while some companies said they would continue operating.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7, Tennessee driver licenses that are not REAL ID compliant will not be accepted at federal facilities or for boarding domestic flights—travelers must use an acceptable form of photo ID such as a passport. LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Tennessee gardeners are advised to start planting cool-weather crops like lettuce, radishes, and carrots this April—when the risk of frost is low in most areas—and to plan for transplanting warm-season vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers once the danger has passed.
