  • The 16th Annual Murfreesboro Saturday Market will begin May 2 at the Historic Rutherford County Courthouse, offering local produce, meats, eggs, baked goods, artisan crafts and live music.   • Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department now accepts applications for its 2026 Teen Fire Academy for teens ages 13 to 17 & the four-day program will be held June 15 to 18 at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Center at 701 Bridge Ave.  Rutherford County Source
  • Murfreesboro City Schools has inducted four educators into its Hall of Fame. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Migratory birds such as Baltimore orioles, hummingbirds, and warblers are arriving in Tennessee this spring. Local birdwatchers can check mapping tools from Journey North & All About Birds for tips on attracting these species.  The Daily News Journal

  • The Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission will open turkey season a week earlier next year, starting on April 3 after the young sportsman hunt, following local hunters' requests. HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC reported that 34 people across 13 states, including one case here, became ill with salmonella from backyard poultry before today, with 13 needing hospitalization.
