  • The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring announced today that Beth Cope is its new vice president of Marketing and Development (she brings nearly 15 years of experience from a role at The Webb School) and will lead marketing and development projects at the center.  Murfreesboro.com
  • TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center is partnering with the Town of Smyrna to host Smyrna Kids Safety Day. The free event runs Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smyrna Event Center at 100 Sam Ridley Parkway, where families will access safety checks, activities, and free bicycle helmets.  Murfreesboro.com

  • Tim Hortons will open two new locations in Murfreesboro, with construction ongoing at 1622 Northwest Broad Street in front of Big Lots and at the intersection of Lascassas Pike + Rutherford Boulevard near the new Aldi. The expansion follows the chain’s launch in neighboring Wilson County.  WGNS

  • MTSU’s Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment inducted alumni Artis Twyman, Forrest Sanders and Brandon Bell into its Wall of Fame during an April 24 ceremony at the James Union Ballroom. The event honored their professional achievements and awarded over 50 scholarships to aspiring media professionals.  Murfreesboro.com

  • Bar-B-Cutie Smokehouse serves its signature pulled pork sandwich and daily specials at its Nolensville Road location, a tradition that began on Murfreesboro Road in the 1950s. The family-run chain operates nine restaurants in Middle Tennessee, South Texas and Georgia (a contest is set for May 16 at five Nashville locations).  Murfreesboro Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • CPA senior pitcher Burton Moore threw 68 pitches in extra innings Wednesday, April 29 to secure a 7-4 win over Brentwood Academy in the Division II AA Middle Region championship; Coach Larry Nesbitt said the senior-led team is one win from avenging last season’s state title loss.  Murfreesboro Post
  • The Tennessee Sports Gaming Act excludes horse racing from legal sports betting, meaning wagers on the Kentucky Derby are not allowed despite the race on May 2. Approved platforms (such as DraftKings) remain available for legal online sports bets for those 21 and older.  The Daily News Journal
  • TSSAA region baseball tournaments are underway in the Nashville area with Division II—A games starting May 1 at Columbia Academy, Goodpasture, Friendship Christian and Grace Christian, and Division II—AA games featuring Ensworth, Lipscomb Academy and Father Ryan scheduled through May 2 for advancement before the state tournament.  The Daily News Journal
