- ➤ The Rutherford County Farmers Market is expanding into the community center at Lane Agri-Park to add vendor space and offer new craft nights, themed picnics & produce activities for families this peak season. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MTSU students showcased their final film projects at the Keathley University Center Theater Thursday night, with faculty calling the works key portfolio pieces for future careers. Audience members applauded the diverse films — from dramatic comedies to documentaries. MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ Dr. Meagan Turnbow has been named Rockvale High School’s new principal. She currently works as the district’s ESL coordinator and will meet with retiring principal Steve Luker soon to ensure a smooth transition. WGNS
- ➤ Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan announced that veteran educator Dr. Clark Blair, who spent 21 years at McFadden School of Excellence, will become Central Magnet School’s new principal today after Dr. John Ash retired to take on a new role. WGNS
- ➤ In Rutherford County School Board GOP primaries on May 5, two incumbents lost while incumbent Katie Darby won, joining Chuck Isbell and Julie Wishing as winners (the trio will face competitors in the Aug. 6 general election for local school board seats). The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Gov. Bill Lee signed a bill expanding the Education Freedom Scholarship Program, making 35,000 scholarships available for students in the 2026-27 school year—more than 56,000 families applied and 81% of awards went to those meeting income eligibility or specialized account criteria. FOX 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City Council approved selling 8.62 acres along Medical Center Parkway for $2.3 million on May 7 to Hackberry 5 Properties, LLC, which will build an event venue and restaurant for over 650 guests; closing is by March 11 and Hackberry funds its own approvals. Murfreesboro Post
