  • The Murfreesboro Spring Festival will take place at Hop Springs on May 31 from 10 AM to 3 PM — the event will include a free petting zoo, fun activities for kids and over 75 vendors with handmade crafts and food.   • Memorial Day Madness at Boro Beach will be held on May 26 from 10am to 4:30pm at Sports—Com, 2310 Memorial Blvd in Murfreesboro where families can enjoy swimming, music and prizes with admission costing $12 for adults and $8 for youth, seniors and military.   • Quality Furniture Company, a family-owned business since 1969, closed its doors after 56 years when it began its final going-out-of-business sale on May 8 along Old Fort Parkway—marking the end of an era.   • Investigators are examining the homicide of a 31 year old woman, Kristiana Shook-Livingston, after hunters found her body near the Gin Creek Wildlife Management Area parking lot on May 10th in Henry County—law enforcement urges anyone with information to come forward.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eagleville native Mattie Pruitt, a 16-year-old singer, wrapped up her American Idol run on May 11th by finishing just short of the Top 5—she earned praise for her strong, heartfelt performances throughout the season. Local supporters in Rutherford County rallied with handmade posters and watch parties, and many expect her music career to grow.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over the weekend, nearly 2,500 students graduated from MTSU at Murphy Center where over 400 graduate and nearly 2,000 undergraduate degrees were awarded—speeches from alumni, the university president and state leaders encouraged graduates to pursue new challenges—reminding them that learning continues after graduation.  MTSU Sidelines

  • Stewarts Creek won the District 7-4A softball tournament with a 7-1 win over Wilson Central last Friday afternoon — the team ended the regular season as champions at home in Smyrna.  Murfreesboro Post
