- ➤ Main Street Murfreesboro will host a Summer Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest on June 14 at Murfreesboro Public Square — the free event is open to all ages and will begin drawing at 7:30 a.m. with judging at 11:00 a.m.; participants must bring washable chalk, and winners in the Early Youth, Older Youth, and Amateur Adult categories will receive local gift cards. - ➤ Every week during the school year, Murfreesboro City Schools provides extra food bags with snacks, drinks, and entrees for 700 students to take home for the weekend. Volunteers from New Vision Baptist Church and Fellowship Methodist Church pack the bags—selected by school counselors and teachers—to help meet the needs of underprivileged students. - ➤ A silver BMW SUV crashed into the Rivers Dental Care building on the 2900 block of South Church Street near Kroger around 6 a.m. on May 14th when the driver reportedly passed out—emergency responders marked the SUV’s final position with orange spray paint. WGNS

- ➤ A man robbed a local Vape & Smoke Shop at the busy intersection of East Northfield Boulevard and North Tennessee Boulevard and left behind bright—white sneakers that may help police identify him from camera footage. WGNS
- ➤ Authorities arrested Mark Joseph Odom of Mansfield on Tuesday, May 13 for criminal homicide in the death of Kristiana Shook-Livingston, a Murfreesboro woman found dead on May 10 in Springville—he is held on a $2.5 million bond. WGNS

- ➤ The Discovery Center at Murfree Spring will host a free Cultural Heritage Day on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, offering interactive cultural activities and debuting its new exhibit, Adventures in Sound—sponsored by the Nissan Foundation. - ➤ Rockvale High School’s class of 2025 celebrated its graduation ceremony on May 14 at Murphy Center at MTSU—graduates tossed caps and received diploma covers as family and friends watched. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Six Rutherford County Schools’ seniors earned $750 scholarships from the Sheriff’s School Resource Officers Division. The awards—based on an essay on ways to improve school safety, GPA, ACT scores and letters of recommendation—were paid from the annual SRO Golf Tournament proceeds and will help students pursue college studies.
