  • Senior catcher Tyler Minnick earned his second straight spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team — announced Friday, May 15 — while representing Middle Tennessee State University Athletics, marking his continued excellence on and off the field.  WGNS
  • Two Jones College of Business students placed third in a national DECA competition at the International Career Development Conference in Louisville last month – Ella Cobb and Savanah Gill earned trophies for their quick, creative marketing plans as they prepare for their professional careers.  Murfreesboro.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Christiana Agrivoltaics Project is testing a way to merge solar panels and livestock on the same land in Rutherford County. Middle Tennessee Electric says the project will help protect farming while expanding renewable energy.  WGNS

  • Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro hosts Memorial Day events from May 23-26 to honor military service members. Flag placements on May 23, a ceremony on May 24, and guided walks on May 25 will be offered (volunteers should register and arrive early due to limited parking).  NewsChannel 5

  • Slim Chickens launched its new Key Lime Pie Jar Dessert on May 6, featuring creamy key lime pie filling and a crunchy graham cracker crust in a mason jar.   • Carter Maneth of Middle Tennessee State University was named to First Team All-Conference USA on Friday afternoon — a recognition for his outstanding season.  WGNS
  • Middle Tennessee State University earned a bronze medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase on day two of the 2026 CUSA Outdoor Track and Field Championship held in Murfreesboro.  WGNS
  • Ravenwood rallied from a 25-point deficit to beat Mt. Juliet 27-25 in the inaugural TSSAA Class AA girls flag football state championship on May 15. MVP Caroline Merville threw four touchdowns to lead the comeback win.  The Daily News Journal
  • Creek Wood girls flag football won the inaugural TSSAA Class A state championship game on May 15 in Murfreesboro with a 25-6 win over Merrol Hyde Magnet. Hollee Wilson earned MVP honors after intercepting four passes, including one returned for a 78-yard touchdown.  The Daily News Journal
