COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rutherford County Farmers Market will host its first-ever Evening Market Tuesday, May 19 from 2 PM to 7 PM at its location on John R Rice Boulevard and offer free admission with a kids planter pot crafting station for families to gather with local growers and small businesses.  WGNS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters quickly put out a kitchen fire at Southern Still Tennessee Bar & Grill on Saturday morning when flames spread from the stove into the attic, forcing the restaurant to close temporarily (no injuries were reported) as utilities were shut off.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local gardening expert Baileigh Snow from Rutherford County Extension advises residents to water deeply instead of daily to help plants build strong roots as summer approaches. She recommends watering early in the morning and using mulch to hold moisture (a simple tip to conserve water).  The Daily News Journal
  • Murfreesboro City Schools announced that Amy Jackson was named a Mid-Cumberland CORE Regional Teacher of the Year semifinalist and that she brings over 20 years of experience from Discovery School & Erma Siegel Elementary, where she inspires students with creative, challenging learning experiences.  Murfreesboro.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Liberty Creek softball defeated Creek Wood 7-0 on Friday to qualify for their third straight Spring Fling and advance as they defend back-to-back Class 2A championships in the 3A tournament. Kaylor West struck out 10, and Ce’Mya Gregory hit a two-run home run.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Central Magnet School’s boys’ tennis team finished as state runner-up at Spring Fling in Chattanooga — they won 4-0 against University School of Jackson in the quarterfinals before losing 4-0 to Merrol Hyde in the championship match.  Murfreesboro Post
  • The Tennessee high school softball state tournament will begin May 19 in Murfreesboro with Division II-A games at McKnight Park and at MTSU, and Division II-AA games at McKnight Park before championship rounds at MTSU on May 21.  The Daily News Journal
  • The Ensworth girls lacrosse team won its first TSSAA Division II-AA state title on Saturday, May 16 at Ravenwood High School by beating defending champion Harpeth Hall 17-9. The Tigers, led by sophomore Caroline Williamson’s seven goals, became the first to score over 16 points against Harpeth Hall since 2024.  Murfreesboro Post
  • MTSU baseball lost its senior night rubber match on Saturday when Liberty scored a go-ahead run in the top of the ninth to win 8-7 at Reese Smith Jr. Field (senior night ended on a dramatic note).  MTSU Sidelines
  • Siegel senior Wyatt Johnson scored a hat trick as the Stars defeated Walker Valley 9+0 on Saturday night at the Siegel Soccer Complex. The win sends the team to Spring Fling where they plan to make a run for a state championship.  Murfreesboro Post
  • The Harpeth softball team lost 6-1 to Summertown in Friday's Class AA sectional game at Kingston Springs and missed its chance at a state tournament berth for the first time since 1991 (the core roster will return next season).  Murfreesboro Post
  • The TSSAA baseball state tournament will begin in Murfreesboro on May 19 at several local schools including Rockvale and Wilson Central, with bracket games leading up to state championship matches on May 22 at MTSU. Scores will be updated throughout the event.  The Daily News Journal
